Order in the court

Rebranding one of the state’s largest and most well-known law firms, we were charged with maintaining the equity and prestige of Davis Brown’s history while updating their look to coincide with the building of a new office in Des Moines.

After two failed engagements with other agencies, Davis Brown came to us in search of a new brand identity that would satisfy the firm’s nearly 50 partners. We worked closely with a committee to fully understand the needs and direction for the project before unveiling the new look to the entire group.


Our first proposed redesign was immediately and unanimously approved by fifty lawyers. Not bad.


A Des Moines institution

Davis Brown’s new identity needed to be modern and prestigious, yet classic at its core.

We created a refined mark for the firm that blended traditional and progressive styling through a one-of-a-kind, hand-manipulated typeface. The three-pillar logo is inspired by the architecture of the firm’s new office and symbolizes their position as a critical part of the Greater Des Moines Community for more than 80 years.

The strong contrast in the design of the letterhead, business cards, and envelopes give Davis Brown’s identity a feeling of sharp professionalism and strength.

Setting a precedent

A universal folder was created to wrap David Brown’s identity around any number of important documents and papers. The firm’s logo makes up the majority of the design and makes an unmistakable statement about the importance of the contents.

The new identity of Davis Brown was created specifically to be rolled out with the completion of their new office. The new look makes a strong statement throughout the workspace, reminding both employees and clients that Davis Brown is a well-established, ubiquitous institution with pride for their work, their location, and their brand.
